The 28th annual Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy’s Conference of Metallurgists is set for Halifax, N.S., on Aug 20-24.

The theme of the conference is “The environment: a metallurgical priority.” More than 350 presentations will focus on environmental concerns as well as advanced metallurgical technologies and procedures that improve industrial production.

USMX (NASDAQ) of Denver, Colo., has signed a joint venture agreement with Spokane-listed Amerigold Inc. to explore the Blackhawk property in California. USMX will earn a 55% interest by spending $1.1 million(US) over the next three years. A mapping and bulk sampling program is under way to determine gold potential.
