Newmont makes deep discovery in northern Nevada

Newmont Gold (NGC-N) has intercepted high-grade gold values in a deep drilling program south of its Post deposit in northern Nevada.

The company encountered long intervals of mineralization in two holes.

Hole 100 hit 207 ft. grading 0.151 oz. gold per ton, including 25 ft. of 0.518 oz. gold. The mineralization occurred at a depth below 6,000 ft.

Hole 102 hit 205 ft. of 0.141 oz. gold, including 20 ft. of 0.78 oz., also below 6,000 ft.

The holes tested the lower plate rocks below the Roberts Mountain thrust, and are considered to be the deepest holes ever drilled in the Carlin trend.

Ronald Cambre, president of Newmont Gold, says it would be years before the discovery could be examined fully and any possible resources determined.

The company’s cornerstone mines are situated on Nevada’s Carlin trend.
