Newhawk reports results from drilling at Sulphurets

More assay results were released by Newhawk Gold Mines (TSE) from a recent surface drill program aimed at testing a number of bulk-tonnage targets on the Sulphurets property north of Stewart, B.C.

The company has a 60% interest in the property, with the remaining interest held by Granduc Mines (TSE).

Previous work on the property was focused on the West zone where a proven and probable reserve of 826,400 tons averaging 0.44 oz. gold and 18.9 oz. silver per ton has been outlined. But a feasibility study in late 1990 found that the project was not economic at then current metal prices

Newhawk said results from 12 recent holes drilled on the bulk-tonnage targets continue to demonstrate the potential for defining a system of copper-gold deposits extending north from Placer Dome’s Kerr deposit.

All five holes drilled on the Sulphurets Gold zone, one of a number of targets tested in the program, returned copper-gold values over significant widths. The latest results include 373 ft. grading 0.49% copper and 0.014 oz. gold from 233.3-606.3 ft.; 137.8 ft. of 0.31% copper and 0.014 oz. gold from 454.4-592.2 ft.; and 117 ft. of 0.43% copper and 0.020 oz. gold from 542.9-659.9 ft.

These holes are reported to have tested about 2,000 ft. of strike length. A step-hole drilled to test favorable geology a further 1,500 ft. along strike intersected 406 ft. grading greater than 0.10% copper and 0.02 oz. gold at 271-677 ft.

Several holes were drilled in the Snowfield zone where previous work outlined preliminary reserves of about 7.7 million tons grading 0.075 oz. gold. Hole 393 bottomed in mineralization and returned 0.056 oz. gold over 653 ft. from 0-653 ft., while hole 394 returned 312.3 ft. of 0.056 oz. gold from surface to 312.3 ft.

Three holes were drilled on the Mitchell zone, with the latest hole returning 787.6 ft. of 0.22% copper and 0.020 oz. gold from surface to 787.6 ft., with the hole bottoming in mineralization. A hole drilled on the nearby Alder zone intersected 483 ft. averaging 0.015 oz. gold, with negligible copper values.
