Project operator Newhawk is drifting at the 1200 level on R-8 as part of the $10 million 1989 exploration program. The company noted that raising between the 1,200-m and the 1,250-m levels indicates a continuous struc ture. Site geologists report that grades average 0.32 oz gold and 17.69 oz silver across 7.6 ft for 220 ft (slope length) of raising on the upper extremity of R-8 between these levels.
As the raise was driven to follow the footwall, the zone’s full width was not exposed and a high grade stringer in the hangingwall not always sampled.
Below the 1,200-m level, a crosscut from the decline at the 1,150-m level encountered the R-8 zone. Assay results are expected shortly.
Fred Hewett, vice-president of exploration, said a drill program from the 1,150-m level was planned to determine the downdip extent of the R-8 zone which remains open in all directions.
President Don McLeod indicated that results for West Zone underground and surface drilling will be reported shortly.
The Sulphurets property, 30 miles northeast of Stewart, B.C., is 60% owned by Newhawk with Granduc Mines (TSE) holding the remaining 40% interest.
