New mining law for Quebec

Quebec’s new Mining Act and its regulations will officially come into force Oct 24.

Approved in 1987 to replace the old act which was passed in 1965, the new mining legislation contains a number of changes, including making a prospector’s licence good for five years and renewable. Cost of the 5-year licence will be $25. Also, new values of work to be performed according to the size of the claims, have been set.

Ministry of Energy and Resources officials have been busy this year touring the province and other parts of Canada explaining the changes.
