New GSC forecast

The geophysics division of the Geological Survey of Canada advises it is issuing a new 27-day multi-zone forecast of geomagnetic activity and a review of the preceding geomagnetic activity, expressed in graphic form.

A three-zone forecast, the GSC says, gives daily estimates of a range parameter, (DR index), for each major magnetic zone, (polar cap, auroral and subauroral), over Canada.

It notes that an evaluation of this approach over the past 18 months by in-house scientists and by selected users has demonstrated the validity of the concept, and that the new form of forecast was highly recommended by the selected users, representing different groups, (exploration industry radio operators, hydro companies, etc.).
