New drill results from Bell Allard South

Further surface drilling by Noranda Exploration, a unit of Noranda (TSE), on its Bell Allard South property near Matagami, Que., has encountered additional base metal mineralization.

To date, a massive sulphide deposit has been partially outlined by 14 drill intersections obtained from nine master holes. The first seven holes were drilled south to test geophysical targets and define geological controls. The discovery hole (BAS-92-28), released late last year, contained 91.4 metres grading 5.9% zinc, 1.15% copper, and 23.7 grams silver per tonne (T.N.M. Dec. 14/92).

Seven intersections have recently been obtained in wedges from two new master holes. See significant results table below.

Frank Condon, director, advanced explorations, acquisitions and development for Noranda says that “these last seven holes were a lot closer to true width.”

The deposit occurs within the Key Tuffite marker horizon that hosts all the known ore bodies on the Matagami South Flank. It occurs at a depth ranging between 950 metres and 1200 metres below surface and has been intersected over a length of 400 metres.

The deposit dips moderately to the southwest at 45-60 and true thicknesses range from 3 to 40 metres.

Portions of the underlying stringer/feeder zone also carry economic grades and dip steeply to the north-northeast.

Exact dimensions of the deposit have not been delineated and drilling with three rigs is expected to continue until year-end.
