New device aimed at improving recovery

U.S.-based Mineral Recovery Systems has unveiled a centrifugal jig aimed at increasing gold recovery.

By distributing a fine slurry feed over the rotating jig bed, the device is able to capture extremely small, dense particles.

It can also separate fine pyrite from coal, and remove heavy, radioactive minerals from waste slurries.

The U.S. Department of Energy has tested the jig to remove contaminants from desert sands.

DuPont is testing the jig in Florida to determine whether it can be applied to heavy mineral sands.

The jig comes in two sizes, which can operate at 5 and 20 tons per hour.

Mineral Recovery Systems is a subsidiary of Alberta-listed Altair International Gold.
