Reconnaissance scale stream sediment and water data covering a vast segment of southeastern British Columbia will be released later this month by the province’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources.
Unprecedented in size, this release will provide explorationists and other geoscientists the formidable task of assessing over 500,000 analytical results from about 8,400 sample sites covering 110,000 sq. km of one of the province’s richest geological regions.
Collected as part of the Regional Geochemical Survey program, the database will present results for up to 50 elements including precious metals (gold), base metals, pathfinder elements and rare earths. Field observations provide a full range of details regarding sample media, sample site and local terrain.
The data packages, to be released June 27, will include field and analytical data from two surveys conducted in 1990, and new analytical data from five joint federal-provincial surveys originally conducted in the 1970s. They will be available in both hard copy and digital data formats.
