New crusher for NAP

Lower throughput rates continue to plague North American Palladium (PDL-T) at the Lac des les palladium mine near Thunder Bay, Ont.

Production totalled 59,069 oz. in the three months ended June 30, compared with 62,168 oz. in the similar period of 2002. Daily throughput rates averaged 12,692 and 13,959 tonnes, respectively, and the average headgrade was up by 4%.

Byproduction also rose across the board, with 5,216 oz. platinum, 5,050 oz. gold, 1.57 million lbs. copper and 915,977 lbs. nickel reporting to the concentrate. Lac des les only produces concentrate, which is then shipped to Sudbury for further processing.

North American Palladium has installed and tested a new gyratory crusher to replace the original one, which was damaged last fall. Subsequent repairs did allow for the original’s use during the first and second quarters.

Palladium recovery rates averaged 76.6% in the recent quarter, similar to the previous quarter but much better than the two periods before that.
