New Craig shaft dropping quickly

Shaft sinking at the Craig mine of Falconbridge in the Sudbury area is progressing at a rapid pace.

Dynatec Mining President Bob Dengler said that during a 31-consecutive-day period in April and May, his workers dropped the new shaft by 508.75 ft. (to about to 4,000 ft.). The diameter of the shaft is 20.5 ft. inside of the concrete lining.

“It’s significant because it’s a complete shaft. It’s equipped and everything,” Dengler said.

Dynatec began the job in January, 1990. The shaft will bottom at 4,900 ft.
