New contract at Geco mine

Employees at Noranda’s (TSE) Geco mine at Manitouwadge, Ont., have voted 78% in favor of a new collective agreement.

Under the terms of the new 2-year contract, effective Aug. 31, wages will increase by 3% each year. Improvements were also made to pension and other benefits.

Located on the north shore of Lake Superior, the Geco operation consists of an underground zinc-copper mine and a 3,400-tonne-per-day mill, employing 480 people. The employees are members of the Canadian Union of Base Metal Workers.
