ICPC will concentrate on the use of the alloys in welding, thermal spraying and welding overlay, also known as cladding.
The 42-45% chromium-nickel alloys are able to withstand high temperatures and highly corrosive and erosive conditions. The alloys have been used in marine diesel engines and black liquor recovery boilers. The welding alloy is also used in nuclear reactors.
ICPC is looking at other applications for the technology including oil refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants, incinerators, smelters, nuclear plants and sulphur dioxide recovery plants.
