New coal company

A reorganization and amalgamation of Manitoba and Saskatchewan Coal (1984) and Bienfait Coal has resulted in the formation of a new company, Estevan Coal Corp. Headquarters of the new company will be located at the Boundary Dam mine office south of Estevan, Sask., Vice-president Pearce Bowman reports.

Plans call for a consolidation of operations of the Boundary Dam and Biefait mines with the future operations of the Shand mine, which will provide coal to SaskPower’s new Shand power station.

The Boundary Dam mine supplies coal to SaskPower’s Boundary Dam power station, while the Bienfait mine ships coal to Ontario Hydro and other customers.
