New agreement at CCR refinery

Unionized workers at Noranda Metallurgy’s CCR refinery voted 86% in favor of accepting the terms of a new collective agreement.

The agreement, which expires in May of 1998, calls for a 2% increase in the average hourly wage per year. It also provides for greater access to a variety of positions in the plant.

Situated in Montreal-East, the CCR refinery is one of the largest copper and precious metal refineries in the world and a leader in the recovery of metals from recyclable materials.

In 1994, CCR produced more than 355,000 tonnes of copper, nearly 1 million oz. gold and more than 23 million oz. silver.
