Several North American companies with operations in Nevada are moving ahead of their South African competitors within the top tier of the world’s gold producers.
While Anglo American of South Africa is still number one in the global gold business, Newmont Gold (NGC-N) and Barrick Gold (ABX-T) are now numbers two and three, respectively. Gold Fields and RTZ-CRA are still ahead of the next tier of North American companies, which includes Placer Dome (PDG-T), Homestake Mining (HM-N) and Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold (FCX-N).
