The Bend deposit in Wisconsin has yielded the widest intersections of copper-gold mineralization yet for NDU Resources (VSE).
Infill drilling on an established reserve, NDU cut 69.5 ft. (true width) grading 2.46% copper and 0.038 oz. gold per ton in hole B90.6 and 61.4 ft. grading 1.87% copper and 0.089 gold in hole B91.8.
The copper-gold zones were encountered at depths of 514-856 ft. below surface.
The company says, unlike the distinct copper-rich hangingwall snd gold-rich footwall zones typical of other parts of the deposit, the new intersections are part of a continuously mineralized interval, including an upper, massive sulphide phase and an underlying stockwork or stringer phase.
The best results from the 8-hole program include:
True Hole Width Copper Gold
(ft.) (%) oz./ton 90-1 40.7 2.66 0.076 90-2 14.7 3.88 0.024
12.3 0.10 0.119 90-3 21.8 2.22 0.023 90-6 69.5 2.46 0.038 91-7 Assays pending 91-8 61.4 1.87 0.089
Based on the results of the first three holes, NDU’s project manager, E.K. Lehmann and Associates, has recalculated the priliminary reserve at Bend. The recalculated the prelinary reserve at Bend. The recalculated reseves include 1.79 million tons grading 3.3% copper and 0.045 oz. gold in the hangingwall and 1.7 million tons grading 0.13 oz. gold and 0.37% copper in the footwall.
The deposit, situated along the Rhinelander-Ladysmithh greenstone belt in northern Wisconsin, was discovered in 1987 by a joint venture group financed through Chevron Resources. A previous 17-hole program outlined two conformable sulpide lenses hosted by a sub-vertical felsic volcanic sequence.
NDU, through its subsidiary Wisconsin Mineral Resources, can increase its interest in the Bend and other leased properties to 54% by financing the current exploration phase. NDU has agreed to spend $500,000 on Bend before the end of March. At that point, Chevron must begin contributing to exploration in order to maintain a 46% interest.
About 55 miles northeast of the Bend deposit, NDU is also testing the Horseshoe copper-zinc deposit. The drilling program is designed to investigate depth extensions of the deposit and increase reserves on the property. Preliminary reserves currently stand at 744,000 tons graduating 2.46% copper and 5.46% zinc plus 66,000 tons grading 2.35% copper and 4.14% zinc.
