Seafloor exploration-focused Nautilus Minerals(NUS-T)has awarded a contract to Technip USA Inc. to develop its deep sea Solwara 1 project, situated in the territorial waters of Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean.
The contract, worth US$116 million, enlists Technip’s services for the riser and lifting system components of its deepwater seafloor massive sulphide extraction system, including: subsea pumps, a riser pipe, a riser handling system and associated deck equipment.
Under the contract, Technip must provide services and parts within the allotted funds, promoting timely delivery of equipment and services.
Nautilus plans to choose the project’s mining production vessels and mining services contractor and production vessels by the second quarter of 2008, with production tentatively scheduled for mid-2010.
