Montreal-based Murgor Resources (MUG-M) has intersected significant gold mineralization in the first phase of drilling at its Mishibishu property, situated about 50 km northwest of Wawa, Ont.
The 1,500-metre, 14-hole program tested the Dorset shear zone within the regional Mishibishu deformation zone.
Notable intersections include: 26.4 metres (from 19.1 metres) grading 1.88 grams gold per tonne, including 5.8 metres of 4.06 grams gold, in hole 8; and 22 metres (from 53 metres) of 3.75 grams gold, including 5.5 metres of 5.85 grams gold, in hole 9. All of the above are true widths.
Gold mineralization in the area drilled also appears at surface, where trenches assayed 3.5 grams gold per tonne across 6.2 metres.
Murgor says the Dorset zone appears to be a stratabound gold zone dipping about 55 north and plunging 60 west. The zone is hosted by clastic sedimentary rocks in contact with pillowed mafic volcanics. Gold mineralization is associated with a strongly silicified-carbonatized shear zone containing 5-10% pyrite and 1-2% arsenopyrite.
Surface sampling and geophysical exploration indicate that the structure may be up to 4 km in length.
The next stage of drilling is set for early summer.
