Mt. Gibson gold mine expansion completed

Reynold Metals Company recently announced the completion of a major capacity expansion at its 50% owned Mt. Gibson gold mine in Western Australia.

The expansion increases the mining and processing capacity to 1.1 million metric tons annually.

The Mt. Gibson mine began operations in 1986 with a design capacity of 525,000 tonnes of ore per year. During 1987, actual capacity was 700,000 tons, producing more than 71,700 oz gold and substantially exceeding design capacity.

The company is continuing to explore for additional ore reserves at the Mt. Gibson site and reports encouraging results.

Reynold is also a 40% participant in the Boddington gold mine, also in Western Australia. At Boddington, one major expansion program has been completed and a new expansion program was announced recently which will make it Australia’s largest gold mine.
