In the fourth quarter, MSV Resources (TSE) established a new record for copper production.
The Montreal-based company mined more than 129,000 tons of ore to yield 4 million lb. of the red metal from its Copper Rand and Portage mines in Chibougamau, Que.
Gold production from those mines remained firm, at more than 12,600 oz. For the past seven quarters, MSV has steadily increased both tonnage and metal production. For the recent fourth quarter, ore production increased by 1.5%, while copper and gold production increased by 13.6% and 2.2%, respectively.
For the year ended Dec. 31, MSV produced 52,934 oz. gold and 13,768,368 lb. copper from 527,217 tons of ore, representing a 41% increase in gold and a 29% increase in copper produced, as well as a 39% increase in tonnage produced on an annual basis.
Meanwhile at the Eastmain project, about 44,000 tons of ore averaging 0.32 oz. per ton have been mined. Over the next 10 weeks, this ore will be trucked to the mill in Chibougamau.
Eastmain has minable reserves of 1.1 million tons averaging 0.32 oz. per ton.
