Zinc mineralization was intersected by Mountain Lake Resources (moa-v) while drill-testing the Malisect nickel-copper prospect in the Bathurst area of New Brunswick.
The property is 25 km west of the Heath-Steele zinc-lead-copper-silver mine operated by Noranda. The zinc discovery has prompted Mountain Lake to assemble a land package covering 5,000 acres in the region.
Discovery hole 2 intersected 6.6 metres (21.6 ft.) grading 8.2% zinc, 0.22% lead, 0.1% copper and 15.1 grams silver per tonne. Another 2.5-metre (8.2-ft.) intercept, deeper in the hole, contained 9.5% zinc, 0.2% lead, 0.09% copper and 17.7 grams silver. The company notes that the mineralized zone averages 5.9% zinc, 0.24% lead, 0.09% copper and 16.1 grams silver over 15.9 metres (52.5 ft.) from 122.3 to 138.2 metres.
The company’s first hole, collared 25 metres from the zinc intercept, and the third hole, collared 400 metres away, intersected disseminated nickel-copper mineralization.
Several conductors and geophysical targets that may correlate with the zinc discovery have been identified. A program of drilling and geophysics will test the target, which Mountain Lake believes could represent the top of a base metal deposit.
