More gold fields in Guyana (June 08, 2004)

Guyana Goldfields (GUY-T) is coming up with impressive assays as the drills turn on its Aurora property, 175 km west of Georgetown, Guyana.

The program began several months ago and has tested several zones.

Three holes were drilled in the Aleck Hill area. The first intersected a true width of 3.5 metres grading 41.83 grams gold per tonne, followed 5.5 metres down-hole by a 2.5-metre (true width) intercept grading 7.98 grams gold. These intersections are at least 130 metres below the lowest level of the former mine workings.

The second hole, spotted 50 metres from the first, cut four significant zones, one of which assayed 4.14 grams gold per tonne over a true width of 15 metres, including 3.5 metres of 9.53 grams gold. This intersection is about 180 metres deeper than the lowest mine workings.

The Aurora mine produced about 1,770 kg gold from 97,850 tonnes grading 17.8 grams per tonne in the 1940s. Most of the gold came from the Aleck Hill area. The zone has a 790-metre strike length.

About 550 metres north of Aleck Hill, a new zone was intersected, yielding 5.5 metres (true width) of 7.1 grams gold per tonne. Other highlights in this zone include 2.48 metres grading 22.67 grams gold and 17.36 metres grading 2.87 grams. Included in the latter intersection was a 5.02-metre section of 6.79 grams gold.

About 1 km to the east, two holes intersected a structure known as Rory’s Knoll, resulting in 46.5 metres of 5.82 grams gold. This intersection begins in oxidized material at surface, and the first 33 metres graded 6.96 grams gold. From a depth of 33 metres, the hole cut highly altered felsic tuff with ubiquitous, finely disseminated sulphides. At the bottom of the hole, half a metre graded 12.1 grams gold.

The company has drilled 2,000 metres of a planned 10,000-metre program. The 65-sq.-km Aurora property is bounded to the north by the Cuyuni River. It is accessible via boat or float plane.
