Vancouver — Having cut copper-nickel-platinum-palladium mineralization some 400 metres under Nickel Lake, junior Aurora Platinum (ARP-V) is gearing up to determine the extent of the promising zone on the Foy property near Sudbury.
The project lies within the Foy Offset.
Geophysical data indicates that the mineralization extends along strike for 400 metres and is connected at depth to Inco’s (N-T) Nickel Lake deposit.
The company aims to begin drilling next week north of the discovery, where down-hole geophysics suggest the presence of a strong conductor.
Later this month, the drills will also be turning on geophysical targets parallel to and below the Falconbridge and Falconbridge East mines on the nearby Footwall project.
Earlier this year, operator Falconbridge (FL-T) drilled three 1,500-metre-deep holes into the footwall of the mines along a 1.2-km strike length. Subsequent down-hole electromagnetics detected strong off-hole conductors in all three holes at an estimated depth of 1,000 metres.
The project lies 15 km northeast of Sudbury and covers an 8-km strike length of Sudbury norite and sublayer rocks.
Aurora Platinum can earn a 60% stake in both the Foy and Footwall projects from Falconbridge by spending $6 million on exploration over a three-year period.
