The announcement of the discovery of a new gold-bearing zone at the old Siscoe mine property near Val d’Or, Que., propelled Aurochs Mining Exploration to near the top of the active list during the week ended March 31. The issue traded 260,800 shares while slipping a penny to 38 cents.
The company says a hole intersected a quartz veining system at 3,000 ft. and the core contains visible gold. Aurochs says the vein system is not related to the main zone of the old Siscoe mine.
Both the mining and minerals index and market portfolio tumbled during the week, the former by about 22 points and the latter by 32.6 points. Daily trading volumes ranged between 4.6 million and 7.2 million shares. A subsidiary of Aurizon Mines, VSE-listed Aurex Resources, has negotiated a deal with Hughes Lang Corp. to take control of the Cauquenes copper tailings project in Chile. Aurizon’s Sleeping Giant property North of Amos, Que., is undergoing an extensive underground drilling program by Cambior, which is earning a 50% interest in the project. Trading 40,100 shares, Aurizon gained 3 cents to 26 cents. Cambior moved up 38 cents to $7.50 on 80,900 shares. Bachelor Lake Gold Mines, off a penny to 6 cents on a slim volume of 1,500, is negotiating with the federal and provincial governments for financial assistance to start up production again at its Desmaraisville, Que., gold mine. In the meantime, the company has plans to ship 20,000 tons of broken ore to the nearby Lac Shortt mill for processing.
