Montreal Exchange Normetal drilling

A major drilling program is just getting under way on the Normetal property north of La Sarre, Que. Cominco has earmarked $1.4 million to explore for deep massive sulphides on the 26,000-acre property to earn a 45% interest. Trading 12,500, affiliated junior Exploration Miniere Normetal gained 3 cents to close at 43 cents. Cominco remained steady at $19.88 on a volume of 47,100. Announcing results from a 25-hole program on the closely watched Holloway property near Matheson, Ont., Freewest Resources shed 10 cents to close at $3 on a volume of 100,000. The assays indicate that Noranda, as project operator, successfully intersected the gold-bearing Lightning zone in 23 of 25 holes. Trading 114,500, Noranda closed unchanged at $14.63.

Drilling is set to start on the Vauquelin property, 22 miles east of Val d’Or, within the next few weeks. Corona can earn a 51% interest in the base metal prospect from Ressources William by spending $500,000 over a 3-year period. Ressources William closed unchanged at 15 cents on a volume of 600. Trading 116,700, Corona A remained steady at $5.38

Nearby at the Bourlamaque property, exploration will get a boost as VSM Exploration and Serem-Quebec begin spending to earn a 60% interest from Orient Resources. The gold property, where several gold-bearing shear zones have been identified by drilling, consists of 24 claims in Bourlamaque Twp., Que. Trading 21,900, Orient closed unchanged at 15 cents while VSM gained 6 cents to close at $1.05 on a volume of 40,500.

Planning to spend $1 million to earn a 100% interest in the Lepage property, eight miles east of Causapscal, Que., Aurochs Exploration shed 2 cents to close at 35 cents on a volume of 16,500. The Gaspesie property hosts a system of gold-bearing quartz veins near a major fault.

Poor ground conditions have hampered core recovery at the Beta Vargas property in Costa Rica, forcing Lyon Lake Mines to stop the latest holes in mid-stream. Lyon, which is earning a 50% interest in the low-grade gold prospect from Black Cliff Mines, announced results from only one hole, including 40 ft. grading 0.084 oz. gold per tonne. Trading 181,000, Lyon Lake gained 2 cents to close at 18 cents.
