Daily trading volumes were relatively strong during the week ended March 17, ranging between 5.2 million and 8.3 million shares, but both the market portfolio and mining and minerals index stumbled. The former dropped by more than 36 points and the latter by almost 70 points.
Planning more drilling of gold property in Benoit Twp., Que., are Orient Resources and its project partner Commonwealth Gold Corp. An initial 4-hole program intersected a shear zone which the companies say can be traced for more than 2,000 metres. Trading 203,000 shares, Orient slipped a penny to 18 cents.
Awaiting full assay results from the drilling of property in Clericy Twp. northeast of Rouyn-Noranda are Temisca Resources and Quebec Crown mining exploration company Soquem. Temisca, trading 66,200 shares, slipped by 15 cents to 20 cents. Soquem has an option agreement to earn a 50% interest in the property.
Producer Campbell Resources reported record gold production for 1991 from its Joe Mann mine southwest of Chibougamau, Que., of 87,500 oz. Campbell was off by 12 cents to 46 cents on a volume of 22,000. Another producer, Cambior, recently reported completion of the bank financing needed for construction of the Omai gold project in Guyana, where commercial production is scheduled to begin during the first quarter of 1993. Trading 63,900 shares, Cambior slipped by 25 cents to $7.88.
Radisson Mining Resources reported intersecting a deep new structure on its Duquesne gold property north of Rouyn-Noranda. Radisson, which was off a penny to 16 cents on 29,600 shares, has been testing Duquesne and the adjacent Lepine property.
Drilling by KWG Resources and SEG Exploration continues at the Granada gold property near Rouyn-Noranda where the No. 1 and 2 zones are being tested. Trading 72,900 shares, KWG slipped by 10 cents to $1. SEG dropped by 8 cents to 45 cents on 13,300 shares.
