Daily trading activity during the report period leaned toward moderate-to-heavy, ranging between 6.3 million and 9.4 million shares. The mining and minerals index gained a puny 1.1 pts on the week, while the market portfolio jumped almost 18 pts.

Trading 400,000 shares and moving up to $1.24 was Orex Exploration, which is making its exploration presence felt in Nova Scotia. Orex is buying the 75% interest of project partner Onitap Resources in the Goldboro property, and has signed an agreement with NovaGold Resources to purchase that company’s interests in the Goldenville and Cochrane Hill gold properties.

Pushing to raise enough funds for development work to earn a 50% interest in the Vendome zinc deposit north of Val d’Or, Que., so as to have the project ready for production by spring, 1990, is Val d’Or Resources. President Pedro Cardoso is currently on a promotional tour. Val d’Or closed at 21 cents with 34,700 shares changing hands. Project partner Abcourt Mines traded 319 shares, closing at 26 cents .

Armistice Resources continues its deep-drilling program at its Virginiatown, Ont., property next to the old Kerr Addison gold mine. A fifth hole has intersected the Kerr zone, which drilling indicates may be further west and slightly deeper than originally thought. Trading 60,685 shares, Armistice ended the day at 56 cents .

Encouraged by the results of three drill holes at its joint-venture Shoal Lake gold property southwest of Kenora, Ont., is Brex Exploration, which closed at 30 cents on 1,000 shares.
