Mixed results were returned from the latest round of deep drilling on the Cerro Casale deposit at the Aldebaran gold property in northern Chile.
The property is held 49% by Bema Gold (BGO-T), with the remainder held by Arizona Star Resource (AZS-V).
The drilling is defining a gold-copper porphyry deposit, with a higher-grade breccia zone, beneath the oxide gold deposit at Cerro Casale (104 million tons grading 0.019 oz. gold per ton).
Several of the new holes intersected the breccia zone, including hole 23 which returned 174 metres grading 1.7 grams gold and 0.23% copper from 322 to 496 metres, and hole 25 which returned a 176-metre interval grading 2.11 grams gold and 0.5% copper from 396 to 572 metres.
The holes returned lower values from the porphyry deposit, as well as from the oxide deposit. For example, hole 27 returned 342 metres grading 0.73 gram gold from the oxide porphyry, as well as a 416.5-metre interval of 1.15 grams gold and 0.49% copper (from 342 to 758.5 metres) from the western part of the porphyry.
The overall results were lower than those of previous holes drilled beneath the Cerro Casale deposit (T.N.M., April 22/96 and T.N.M., June 24/96).
