MinVen faces delay at Gilt Edge mine

Leaching operations have been delayed at MinVen Gold Corp’s (TSE) Gilt Edge mine in South Dakota because of a leakage problem with a leach pad. Seepage was detected in the upper liner of the multiple- lined pad and the company has complied with the State policy of suspending operations in such circumstances.

According to George Ireland, senior vice president and chief financial officer, “Pad and liner experts have already begun to propose alternatives to our management team that will allow us to resume production as rapidly as possible.”

He emphasized that government officials were notified immediately of the problem and all seepage has been contained within the secondary collection system of the pad. “The second liner system worked perfectly in recovering the solution used to leach gold,” he added.

Ireland said the company was “working diligently to modify the upper liner of the leach pad in order that we may resume full production as soon as possible.”
