Canadian Electrolytic Zinc (CEZ), a division of Noranda (TSE), has agreed to purchase the zinc concentrate production from Minnova’s (TSE) Winston Lake mine for the first six months of 1993 to a maximum of 50,000 tonnes.
This agreement will enable the mine to operate at full production capacity until at least June 30.
Minnova is attempting to place the balance of the year’s production with other smelters.
Should Minnova be unsuccessful, it will consider temporary shutdowns, slowdowns and stockpiling at the mine.
There is currently a world oversupply of zinc concentrate in relation to smelter capacity.
Minnova is controlled by Metall Mining (TSE).
