Canada’s mining industry will join forces with agricultural producers and non-government groups to develop and implement policies and actions to conserve endangered species.
Environment Canada officials recently held a conference to discuss this initiative with representatives of resource and agricultural industries. The parties agreed that a fundamental component of a national strategy for species conservation would be partnerships among stakeholders. Emphasis would be placed on the importance of voluntary and non-regulatory policies.
The partners hope this will result in innovative, economical opportunities to enhance non-regulatory approaches and voluntary initiatives for the management of endangered species.
The Mining Association of Canada is taking part in the proposals.
