MINING IN MEXICO — PROJECT ROUNDUP — Manganese industry

The Grupo Ferrominero S.A. consortium gained control earlier this year of most of Mexico’s manganese industry. The consortium bought Cia. Minera Autlan de C.V. and Ferroaleaciones de Mexico S.A. (Ferromex) to gain its control.

Most of the country’s manganese ore facilities and all its manganese ferro-alloy production were involved in the purchases; the port facilities (Tampico) of Autlan and the ferro-alloy plant (Gomez Palacios) of Ferromex were part of the deal.
