Mining Hall of Fame gala at the ROM

Dine, wine and be entertained by the Cowboy Junkies.

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame is hosting a special springtime fundraising gala evening at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto on Saturday, May 9, 2009.

Patrons will be able to interact with the dynamic new CMHF gallery, located beside spectacular minerals and gems in the Teck Suite of Galleries.

Dinner will be followed by a performance of the Cowboy Junkies, Canada’s internationally renowned country music and alt-rock band, whose members include descendants of two Hall of Fame inductees, Noah and Jules Timmins.

Proceeds from the evening will support the development of satellite exhibits across Canada and the CMHF’s other outreach projects.

The ROM’s new CMHF gallery features the Hall’s inductees, currently numbering 140, and videos about Canada’s minerals and metals and mining industry.

Consisting of a large wall screen and two monitors, the interactive multi-media exhibit can be duplicated relatively easily.

The CMHF board of directors hopes to establish such satellite exhibits across Canada. The first one will be installed in the B.C. Museum of Mining at Britannia Beach, in time for the Winter Olympics in February 2010.

And note that the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum’s annual conference and exhibition is being held in Toronto from May 10-13.
