A new committee has been set up to organize the second World Mines Ministers Forum, which will be held in Toronto in 2002. The date has yet to be announced.
The committee will propose workshops and consider ways to improve upon the previous forum, which was also held in Toronto, in 2000.
The success of the first forum was a reflection of the support of the Ontario government, the World Bank, and the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, says Dan Newman, Ontario’s mininster of northern development and mines. Fifty-two countries and more than 300 representatives of government and industry participated.
The forum is designed to allow mines ministers to discuss ways to improve the mining industry.
