A delegation led by Ontario Mines Minister Christopher Hodgson attended the recent Minexpo ’96 trade show in Las Vegas, Nev.
Hodgson and representatives of mining equipment manufacturers promoted the advantages of investing in Ontario, namely its natural resources, mining equipment sector and regulatory cutbacks.
“This is an emerging growth sector in Ontario’s economy, particularly in northern Ontario, and we as a government want to see it continue to flourish,” Hodgson said.
A 4-day event held every four years, Minexpo is a showcase for mining equipment and services. This year’s event drew up to 35,000 visitors and more than 1,000 exhibitors. Among those in attendance were 130 Canadian mining equipment and service firms, more than 65 of which are based in Ontario.
A series of events sponsored by the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE) was aimed at promoting investment in Ontario.
