Miners strike at Cassiar mine

Union employees at the Cassiar mine in northern British Columbia rejected a new collective agreement offered by a unit of Princeton Mining (TSE) and stopped work on the evening of March 1. .TThe proposed 3-year agreement offered by Princeton subsidiary, Cassiar Mining, was rejected by 78% of the mine’s 330 union employees. The previous contract expired at the end of 1990.

The Cassiar mine produces asbestos fibre from the McDame deposit. The underground operation is being continued and management personnel is providing essential services to the approximate 100 residents of the town of Cassiar.
