Mineral potential on Indian lands

Completion of a national inventory and data base which identify and rate the mineral potential for economic development on 2,267 reserves across Canada has been announced by Indian Affairs and Northern Development Minister Tom Siddon.

It is calculated there are economic mineral development opportunities for almost half of all Indian bands in Canada. The inventory comprises 45 volumes and contains about 10,000 maps.

The inventory records 3,276 mineral occurrences on Indian reserves in Canada, of which 265 metallic occurrences are considered to be of significant interest.
