The Mineral Economics Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum will hold its annual meeting on Jan. 27 at the Hotel Vancouver.
Entitled “Corporate Strategy in Mining: Finding, Developing and Operating Mines in the 1990s,” the symposium will feature representatives of exploration companies, emerging producers and diversified senior producers, including: Alex Balogh, chairman of Falconbridge; George Burns, director of DeBeers and the Central Selling Organization; Hugo Dummett, senior vice-president of BHP Minerals International; Clive Johnson, president of Bema Gold; David Lowell, chairman of Arequipa Resources; David Thompson, president of Cominco; Milton Ward, president of Cyprus Amax Minerals; and John Willson, president of Placer Dome.
Topics to be discussed include the effect of international politics on exploration, the proliferation of junior companies, regulatory and tax reform in the Third World, and world financial markets.
