Minera Andes makes discovery at Los Azules

Vancouver — Reconnaissance drilling by Minera Andes (MAI-V) has revealed a large, enriched copper zone at the Los Azules property in Argentina’s San Juan province, near the border with Chile.

Drilling returned 0.8% copper over 36 metres and 0.54% copper over 120 metres within an area defined by geology and deep-penetrating induced-polarization and magnetic geophysical surveys. The overall target area measures about 1,500 metres by 2,000 metres, and has been confirmed by four drill holes showing enriched copper (chalcocite) over an area of 1,000 metres by 500 metres.

The new discovery was made during a 9-hole, reconnaissance drill program aimed at testing possible extensions of known leachable copper mineralization identified on a neighbouring property.

Minera Andes President Allen Ambrose says the company is excited by the discovery as the geological setting and mineralization "can be amenable to low-cost mining and processing methods."

In the discovery zone, strongly leached cap rock extends from 65 to 161 metres depth, followed by an enriched zone of secondary copper mineralization, overlying a zone of mixed secondary and primary copper mineralization.

Other results from the drilling include 140 metres of 0.38% copper and 56 metres of 0.44% copper.

Minera Andes holds ten properties totalling 200,000 hectares in Argentina. The most advanced is the Huevos Verdes gold-silver discovery at the San Jose project in Santa Cruz province, now at the underground development stage.
