Vancouver — A miner at the Bralorne-Pioneer mine in British Columbia was killed when the hangingwall collapsed, causing a rock fall.
The victim, Paul Egan, 52, was a one of the first workers to be hired at the recently reopened mine and had worked at numerous underground mines throughout his life.
The incident will be investigated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the province’s mines ministry, and the Coroner, as the Workers’ Compensation Board.
The Bralorne-Pioneer mill was reactivated in April after lying dormant for more than 30 years. A 40-oz. dore bar was recently poured.
