Minefinders upbeat at Real Viejo

Mapping and geochemical sampling has outlined a 600-by-300-metre area of quartz stockwork rich in silver at Minefinder‘s (MFL-T) Real Viejo prospect in Mexico’s Sonora state.

The latest samples from the stockwork averaged 75.2 grams silver per tonne. Some ran up to 902 grams silver and 1.13 grams gold per tonne.

A total of 54 rock-chip samples from the stockwork area returned significant silver values, as well as gold and highly anomalous base metals and antimony. Of the samples, 43% contained more than 20 grams silver and averaged 136.8 grams silver. One line of samples, taken over a 160-metre true width, averaged 72.5 grams silver. Initial results from another sample included values of up to 460.3 grams silver and 1.13 grams gold. Overall, the 54 samples yielded an average of 60 grams silver.

The main stockwork zone is well defined by a strong base metal and precious metal anomaly. The strongest mineralized zones are represented by abundant secondary copper, iron and manganese oxides, galena, lead oxides and chalcocite. Less prevalent disseminated mineralization occurs throughout the entire area of alteration.

At least 30 old shafts, adits, pits and dumps were found within the area. No historic production records have been found. Minefinders says the depth of the old shafts suggest extensive unexplored underground workings. Old pits and workings have also been found outside the main zone, both along strike and in smaller, separate structural zones with similar styles of stockwork veining. A sample from such a structure, 200 metres north of the main zone, returned 355.2 grams silver across 3 metres.

Minefinders sees the property as an open-pittable, bulk-tonnage silver target with significant gold credits. The company says secondary silver enrichment exists beneath the superficial zone of oxidation.

The company plans a program of sampling, mapping and reconnaissance to define drill targets.
