Minco expands in Qinling gold belt

Vancouver — The acquisition of six exploration licences has boosted the already-sizable holdings of Minco Mining & Metals (MMM-T) in the Qinling gold belt, the second largest gold-producing region in China.

The Qinling belt encompasses parts of Gansu, Shaanx and Sichuan provinces and, according to Chinese government agencies, contain more than 16 million oz. gold. Production from the region dates back thousands of years.

Minco’s newly acquired licences cover 553 sq. km on the eastern strike extension of the Anba gold deposit, and form the eastern part of the 90-km-long Yangshan gold belt. Anba hosts a resource equivalent to about 3 million oz. gold, and is one of many Carlin-style deposits identified on the Yangshan belt.

Minco President Ken Cai says the acquisition boosts Minco’s holdings in the region to a total of nine exploration projects, plus the Anba deposit. The Vancouver-based junior plans to carry out aggressive exploration programs this year to follow-up two newly discovered gold zones on the Gunniuwan property and a strong gold anomaly on the Goujiagou property.

The six new properties have the same geological setting, structure, alteration, and gold mineralization as the Anba deposit but have never been systematically explored. Stratabound, disseminated gold mineralization at Anba occurs in calcareous classic sediments.
