Milling resumes at Lac des Iles

North American Palladium (PDL-T, PAL-X) has resumed milling operations at its Lac des Iles palladium mine, north of Thunder Bay, Ont., following a tailings dam leak on Feb. 4.

While the leak has been plugged, extensive flooding in the milling and primary crusher areas has resulted in significant damage to the electrical switchgear at the primary crusher.

The mill is currently being fed stockpiled ore, which will be supplemented with crushed ore from portable crushers. The company expects the primary crusher to return to action early next week.

The mine’s open-pit and underground mining operations remain unaffected.

Crusher problems in 2005 saw NAP’s production slip by 43% from a year earlier to 177,167 oz. of palladium.

North American Palladium was trading 50 lower at $11.70 in the morning in Toronto following the news on Feb. 10.
