Milestone set in Canadian shipping

A new milestone in Canadian Arctic shipping was set in late December, 1995, when an ice-breaking vessel delivered a cargo of petroleum products to Deception Bay. The cargo was delivered to Falconbridge’s Raglan nickel project.

This area of Hudson Straight is traditionally closed to shipping, beginning at the end of October.

The vessel, M.V. Arctic, uses a computerized ice navigation system which enables the captain to find the easiest route through the ice, and avoid the worst areas of ice ridging and pressure.
