CDN-listed Metallica Resources is preparing to drill 10 holes on a target outlined at its Cuyuni gold property in Venezuela.
The target is one of five that were outlined in a program which recovered 3,800 soil samples.
The target to be drilled, the South zone, is a geochemical anomaly with a 3-km strike length coincident with a northwest-trending structure. The anomaly is associated with a feldspar-quartz porphyry that shows abundant hydrothermal alteration, stockwork quartz veining and mineralization. A 600-metre strike length of the southeastern le has returned values ranging up to 0.12 oz. gold per ton.
The 10-hole program will consist of 1,000 metres. Meanwhile, four other targets have been defined.
The Central zone encompasses a 300-by-400-metre core geochemical anomaly with possible extensions to the southwest. It lies at the intersection of northwest-southeast-trending and north-south-trending magnetic lineaments. In-fill drilling and 1-metre-deep auger drilling are in progress. The three remaining zones — North, East and Draga — all contain geochemical anomalies coincident with geophysical lineaments. Infill drilling and geochemical sampling will be used to define these further.
