Metalex finds diamonds near Victor

Metalex Ventures (MTX-V) announced it has discovered two micro diamonds in previously drilled core from a project the sits just 7 km south of DeBeers’ Victor diamond mine.

The results come from eight core holes that the company reported as kimberlite back on June 19th.

One hole returned two clear white microdiamonds from an 8.64 kg sample of kimberlite breccia recovered in drill core from between 5.8 and 25.3 meters below surface. The sample also contained G10 garnets as well as chrome diopsides and one olivine grain — all of these grains were determined to be of diamond inclusion composition.

A 6.18 kg core sample from a second drill hole contained one natural clear white microdiamond. The sample material was also identified as kimberlite breccia and was intersected between 30.5 and 39.6 meters below surface. This sample also contained G10 garnets as well as a chromite and chrome diopside grains, all with diamond inclusion compositions.

Metalex says small samples of kimberlites in the area — such as those at the nearby Victor Diamond Mine — typically do not contain abundant microdiamonds.

Another 13 holes, which Metalex says are possible kimberlite core intersections, have also been submitted for analysis.

Metalex is the operator of the project which a joint venture between itself Arctic Star Diamond (ADD-V) and Big Red Diamond (DIA-V).

The claims were optioned from Dumont Nickel. (DNI-V) and are located 7 km south of DeBeers’ Victor Diamond Mine.

In Toronto on July 6, Metalex’s shares finished 3¢ higher at 82¢, while Arctic Star Diamond shares were unchanged at 3.5¢ and Big Red Diamond shares finished at 2.5¢ on 7,000 shares traded.
