Metal snips (March 14, 1988)

Total sales of potash by North American producers for all purposes (including exports) during 1987 were about 17.5 million tons containing an equivalent 10.2 million tons K203 1/20, according to the Potash and Phosphate Institute. Sales in 1987 represented a 14% increase over 1986 figures.

Top officials of the London Metal Exchange (lme) are in favor of opening a lme registered warehouse in Japan provided the Japanese allow it to meet the requirements of the lme contract without special concessions. It is also reported the Japanese aluminum federation is pushing for the opening of a Japan Metal Exchange to trade initially in aluminum.
