Michael McPhie will discuss ideas for carrying out research at the former Britannia copper mine, north of Vancouver, at the next meeting of the Vancouver branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.
The meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The Britannia project is a joint effort of the Britannia Beach Historical Society and the government of Canada. Plans call for the site to be turned into a centre for research, learning and entertainment, with upwards of 500,000 visitors projected to visit each year.
McPhie is directing the project and and has more than 13 years’ experience in senior levels of government and consulting. He is a principal of HBA Management Consultants in Vancouver.
McPhie is completing a PhD at the University of British Columbia, where he is focused on mining and “sustainability.”
The cost of attending the meeting is $35 for members and $50 for non-members. For more information, contact Gerry Stafford. E-mail: gerry.stafford@protecsales.com
