McKnight heads for Cordillera

William McKnight will replace Jake Epp as a speaker at the Mineral Economics Symposium sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum to be held here Jan. 25.

McKnight replaced Epp as Canada’s minister of Energy, Mines and Resources early this month, as a result of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney’s recent cabinet shuffle. (Epp is not expected to run in the next federal election.) McKnight will take part in a session on international competitiveness, and this address is one of his first speaking engagements in the new portfolio. British Columbia Mines Minister Anne Edwards will participate in the official opening of the symposium entitled, “Mining in North America, facing the issues head on.” Other speakers of the day-long event include Teck Corp. President Norman Keevil, Homestake Mining Chairman Harry Conger and Ken Georgetti, president of the British Columbia Federation of Labour.
